Mayor Yalçın: “These Trees are Your Charity”

President Yalçın came to the program at the top of Ali Mountain with his grandchild. Vice presidents, unit managers, students and dormitory managers also attended the program.

Mayor Yalçın placed the saplings in the holes opened by the officials and planted the saplings with his grandson and young people.

“WE HAVE BEEN PLANNING TREES FOR 5 YEARS”

Speaking at the event, Mayor Yalçın stated that they have been working on afforestation of Mount Ali and its surroundings since he took office 5 years ago, and said, “When Mehmet Özhaseki Bey was the mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, we planted 300 thousand trees here. We also laid drip hoses. 711 thousand hectares is a very large area. I am not going to explain the benefits of planting trees to university students, but the trees we plant here are coniferous trees. One coniferous pine tree is worth the oxygen produced by an acre of apple trees. That's why we prefer them more, but their durability, easy hold on the ground, and being always green are also important. In addition, we have planted and continue to plant many types of trees here, such as linden, mahlep and gilaburu. Thank you. May God accept your good deeds. As these trees produce oxygen, each of you will become a charity. That's why we are doing very meaningful work.” he said.

Students expressed their satisfaction in participating in the program and said that they felt happy to protect the environment.

THANKS TO MAYOR YALÇIN

Vedat Yaşar Akkök, one of the students, said, “Oxygen is one of the main reasons for our world. “It was a good activity for me.” Another student, Ömer Kaymak, said, “It was a bit of a relaxing environment during our exam week. We moved and put out our energy. “I would like to thank our mayor and everyone else who contributed.” he said.

During the program, students were served fruit juice and cake, while 300 cedars and Scots pine trees were brought together with soil.
