'Green' Breath to Bursa

Bursa, which is the only city in Turkey known with color as 'Green Bursa', of which 11 percent of its approximately 45 square kilometer surface area is forest and 34 percent is agricultural land, is adorned with green with the Metropolitan Municipality's goal of 'Green Bursa again'.

Especially in parallel with industrialization and increasing population, new ones are added to the decreasing green areas in the city center every year. The Metropolitan Municipality, which set a target of 3 million square meters of new green areas by the end of the period in order to highlight Bursa's green identity, exceeded its target with the investments it made in this area in 2023.

While the construction of Gökdere National Garden, which was brought to the city with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, was completed, new green areas such as Hacıvat Park, Demirtaş Recreation Area, Üçevler Park and Aşık Veysel Park, which were completed by the Metropolitan Municipality, were opened to the use of citizens. While both sides of Gökdere have been transformed into a green corridor with landscaping arrangements, the renovation works of Teoman Özalp Park and Martyr Erhan Öztürk Park, which bears the name of the late Mehmet Turgut Ünlü, who was mayor of Orhangazi for 4 terms, have also been largely completed. . In addition to all these, the Bursa National Garden was brought to the Emet District of Kütahya by the Metropolitan Municipality.

With the work carried out under the coordination of the Department of Parks and Gardens, regular irrigation, lawn mowing, weed cleaning, fertilization, spraying, hoeing and pruning activities were carried out in a total of 8 million 864 thousand 989 m2 area consisting of afforestation areas, main arteries, parks and gardens.

TREES ARE UNDER PROTECTION

The Metropolitan Municipality, which protected the monumental plane trees that surround the city as the most important witnesses of Bursa's ancient history and whose ages range from 100 to 600, also transferred the remaining trees in the project areas to be implemented to the afforestation areas without cutting them down. With this work, 4 thousand 527 trees remaining in the project areas were removed with special vehicles and planted in afforestation areas. In addition, during 2023, 61 thousand 113 trees in the city and various parks were pruned, 225 thousand 190 square meters of hedge plants were shaped and the bottom shoots of 8 thousand 924 trees were removed.

Again, in 2023, afforestation activities continued uninterruptedly, and 20.302 trees were planted throughout the year. 322 thousand 035 shrub plants, 64 thousand 779 roses, 8 million 175 thousand 379 seasonal flowers and 1 million 201 thousand 825 flower bulbs were planted in the soil to make the intersections on the main arteries and parks and gardens look more aesthetic.

In order to make various parks, squares and main arteries under the responsibility of the Metropolitan Municipality more comfortable for citizens, a total of 411 picnic tables, 450 benches, 421 garbage bins, 55 camellias and 103 panel fences were supplied and installed. 49 sets of children's play groups and 33 sets of sports/fitness groups were installed in parks at different points of the city.
