Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has concluded the tender for "Consultancy Services for the Supervision of the Modernization of the Double Track Railway Connecting the Cities of Cairo, Giza and Beni Suef", financed by the World Bank. Egyptian National Railways (ENR) is implementing a number of projects to modernize the country's railway infrastructure. One of these projects is the modernization of the double-track railway connecting the cities of Cairo, Giza and Beni Suef.

The first phase of this project includes the modernization of signaling systems and track works. A contract worth approximately 10 million euros was signed with the joint venture of UBM AŞ – SF Ingenieure AG – Korail Korea Railroad Corporation – EHAF Consulting Engineers, which won the tender. Consulting services will include oversight and management of the contract.

The budget of the construction contract is more than 300 million Euros and the projected implementation period is 60 months. The Thales-Orascom Construction consortium will be responsible for the modernization of the signaling and telecommunications systems and the renovation of the runway in this particular section.
