The second event of the Children's Workshop, which was held in cooperation with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and UNICEF, was held as part of the preparatory work for the Second Century Economics Congress to be held in Izmir on March 15-21. In the first session, children between the ages of 7-12 came together, and in the second session, children between the ages of 13-17 met.
EGİAD In the second session of the Children's Workshop held at the Center for Social and Cultural Activities (Portugal Synagogue), children between the ages of 13-17 were divided into 5 groups and developed their own projects.
Children developed 5 different projects
Children between the ages of 13-17 who participated in the Children's Workshop experienced the concept of “economics” and budget management with different activities. Children divided into five different groups developed projects on safe cities, child and youth participation, green and clean nature, special areas for the disabled and helping earthquake victims. Then, the children learned budget management by investing in the projects they wanted with the game money given to them. Models in which children introduce their projects will be exhibited at the Second Century Economics Congress to be held on March 15-21.
A 10-point action plan will be issued.
In the workshop, many topics such as the relationship of local governments with children and youth, the rights and participation of young people, human-centered design, intervention areas and analysis were discussed. A 10-item action plan will be drawn from the ideas that emerged at the end of the Children's Workshop, which was convened for the second time. The discussions and decisions made in the workshop will be presented to the Second Century Economics Congress and the workshop will contribute to the outputs of the congress.
Congress program announced
The program of the Second Century Economics Congress, a civic, transparent and fully participatory initiative, has been announced. At the end of the congress, policy proposals that will shape the new century will be shared with all of Turkey.
The program of the Second Century Economics Congress, which will last for seven days, includes main sessions, delegate meetings, forums and artistic activities. The main congress will bring together respected scientists and experts from Turkey and the world. Nearly 70 speakers will make many comprehensive presentations. Names such as Vandana Shiva, Sir Bob Geldof, Michio Kaku and Andrew McAfee will give talks on building the future.
Comprehensive negotiations on the long-term consequences of the devastation caused by the 6 February 2023 earthquake were included in the congress program. Sessions on many topics such as creating cities that are compatible with nature and resistant to disasters were added to the program.
