Implementation Principles in Contracted Livestock Have Been Determined

The Meat and Milk Institution (ESK), the relevant institution of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has determined the contractual breeding practices that will bring the idle capacities of the existing fattening enterprises into production, increase efficiency and ensure sustainability in red meat production.

The application has been prepared to serve as a model for the sector.

Accordingly, the pre-demand applications regarding the application will be made by the breeder to the combine directorates by filling out the form published on the IHC's website.

The number of animals to be signed with a breeder will be a minimum of 5 heads and a maximum of 200 heads. A contract will be signed between the breeders whose applications are deemed appropriate and the combine directorates. Applications will be finalized within 1 month.

A new contract will not be signed with the breeder whose contract has been signed until 90 percent of the current commitment is completed. The total number of animals in the first contract and the second contract of the breeder who wishes to sign a new contract will not exceed 200 heads in one year.

Public institutions and organizations and their affiliates will not be able to benefit

Contracted fattening will be done primarily with breeders with idle capacity.

Support payments will be transferred to the account of the breeders by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry through Ziraat Bank.

Public institutions and organizations and their affiliates will not be able to benefit from contracted livestock breeding.

Support payment will not be made for cattle subjected to compulsory slaughter within the scope of Animal Diseases Compensation Legislation by the Ministry, for cattle whose carcass is decided to be destroyed in post-slaughter inspection, and for cattle whose damage has been paid within the scope of TARSİM insurance pool.

A service fee of 100 TL per animal will be collected from the breeders to whom the contract will be signed, in advance or at the end of the fattening period. A commitment letter will be taken from those who want to pay the service fee at the end of the fattening period.

Contracted breeding will be implemented for 5 years and contracts will be made annually.

PROVISIONS OF FEEDERS

The cattle will be supplied by the breeder. The care, feeding and safety of the animals will be the responsibility of the breeder. The breeder will need to comply with animal health and welfare standards.

No vaccines, biological substances, drugs or hormones that are not approved by the Ministry will be used. The transport of animals to the slaughterhouse or combine will also belong to the breeder.

PROVISIONS OF THE INSTITUTION

Slaughterers will be made on the date specified in the contract in the Institution's combines or in contracted slaughterhouses.

Those with a carcass weight of 201-250 kilograms will receive a support payment of 2,5 lira per kilogram, those with a carcass weight of between 251-300 kilograms, 3,5 lira per kilogram, and those with a weight of 301 kilograms and above, 5 lira per kilogram.

The institution will establish a registration system and will visit the farmer's business at least once during the fattening period and prepare an observation report about the business.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be able to make changes in support unit prices when it deems necessary.
