CAUSES DIFFERENT DISORDERS

Kiss. Dr. Çerçi gave the following information: “Androgens secreted from the testis and adrenal glands are of vital importance for the development and maintenance of male reproductive and sexual functions. Decreased androgen levels in early pregnancy lead to congenital anomalies and sexual development disorders in the male reproductive system. Testosterone is necessary for the development of reproductive system organs, as well as for the onset of puberty, fertility, sexual functions, muscle formation, body composition, bone mineralization, fat metabolism and the health of cognitive functions. Males produce 6 mg of testosterone per day. 95% of this is produced from the testicles and 5% from the adrenal glands, which we call the adrenal glands. Only 2% of testosterone is found in free form. 98% of it is transported in the body bound to proteins. Free testosterone forms the biologically active moiety. In patients in cases where biochemical serum Testosterone levels are below the lower limit in blood tests; sexually (decreased Libido, erectile dysfunction, orgasmic disorders); as psychological symptoms (weakness, fatigue, depressed mood, decreased motivation); The clinical syndrome that occurs together with metabolic (decreased muscle mass, decrease in bone density, etc.) is called Testosterone Insufficiency.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

Providing information about the diagnosis and treatment processes of testosterone deficiency, Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Ömür Çerçi said, “In patients with certain criteria, gonadotropin and testosterone replacement therapies can be performed in the presence of a urologist and an endocrinologist. Testosterone preparations are available in short, medium and long-acting, oral form, gel form and intramuscular ampoule form. Libido begins to improve one month after testosterone therapy is started. Anemia and psychological conditions improve within 2-3 months. Erection problems begin to improve within 6 months. Starting from the 9th month, the improvement in bone density begins.

Testosterone deficiency is a condition that should be considered in patients presenting with the above-mentioned symptoms. Blood testosterone levels should be checked at least twice in the morning (between 7-10 am). In suspicious cases, further investigations from bone density measurement to pituitary magnetic resonance imaging should be performed and the cause of the problem should be clarified. In summary, testosterone therapy improves libido, erection quality and other sexual symptoms.
