Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlumade investigations on İncirli Street, one of the symbol areas of Bakırköy, which they have completely renovated with its infrastructure and superstructure. İmamoğlu, who took a long walk on the street with Bakırköy Mayor Bülent Kerimoğlu, was informed by İBB Deputy Secretary General Gürkan Alpay about the works in the new Freedom Square, which is under construction. “DO NOT STOP HERE”
“We have finished the part of İncirli Street up to this intersection. We definitely connect İncirli Caddesi to the D100. No stopping here. In this process, it is necessary to solve this problem by solving the traffic problem especially at the intersection. We need to ensure that this continues towards Izzettin Calislar and reaches almost as far as Haznedar. This place was one of the most important backbones of Istanbul in the past. We are touching an area that has never been touched in over 25 years for the first time. In this field, which had a good flow for people almost 30 years ago, it should have been taken already according to the changing living conditions, but we are taking it for the first time. Therefore, we have solved these streets with a model that can overcome the derelict and dark state of the passage of İncirli Caddesi and Izzettin Çalışlar Avenue under the D100 highway.
İSTANBUL AVENUE AND FREEDOM SQUARE SHARED INFORMATION

We should also share this with the people of Bakırköy: There are two important transportation opportunities here that will change the life in Bakırköy. One of them; Our Ataköy-İkitelli line. We are doing. One of them is our Bakırköy-Kirazlı line. It's the Ministry of Transport. There is a Marmaray system that connects these lines. When you look at it, the pedestrian capacity will increase in this region rather than the vehicle. This is our district, which has been a dense crowd of people since the past. In this context, the square business and its meeting areas, meeting points with the metro, meeting points with the Marmaray station become more valuable than ever. In this context, we have already made the design. They were also approved by the competition.”

“But there has been a nice development here. What is that evolution? Thanks to our Mayor, 'The Governor is moving from here, there is a search for a place. If you show an area, he brought the district governor's area to our table, asking if it can be exchanged with the Metropolitan, with a square or another element. We set out saying 'We want this very much'. It took a little longer; The plan, the Assembly, the objections, the proceedings took almost 2 years. It took 2 years from the beginning of the idea. But we did a tremendous job on behalf of the people of Bakırköy. What did we do? We allocated a public area to the district governor's office here, in an area close to the D100 highway, where the courthouse is. In a way, we have also ensured that public areas are gathered in one place. Bakırköy Municipality is also passing through that region. Here, too, we have made one of the rare applications in Istanbul by transforming it into a square area without expecting anything from the top.”
“WE MANAGED THE PROCESS WITH A COLLECTIVE MIND”
“In public domain swaps, the public must also do something in their own domain. But here, instead of doing something, both our Bakırköy Municipality and our IMM Municipality have carried out a process for an area where the citizens can breathe. I think history will speak and write about it. Because as you can see, an extraordinary square has emerged. So here, so to speak, are the Republic celebrations held with 100 thousand people or 150 thousand people; i don't know him. But it is an extraordinary area, befitting Freedom Square, together with its immediate surroundings… Bakırköy Municipality shaped the Bakırköy municipality building, perhaps with a different function, and when it meets with Ebuzziya Street, İstanbul Street and the beach, with the renewal of the axes here, Bakırköy, at least in the future, is in my opinion. İmamoğlu stated that there are opportunities to present the new Freedom Square to Istanbul before the general election to be held in 2024, with the completion of the metro work carried out by the Ministry of Transport.
THE FACE OF INCIRLI AVENUE HAS CHANGED
Incirli Street arrangement works were carried out taking into account the pedestrian density. According to the traffic circulation decision taken for the purpose of regulating the traffic, pedestrian priority street arrangement was applied. Pedestrian and traffic density in the region; parking pockets, public transport stops were disciplined by regulations. Pedestrian areas were functionalized with the urban furniture placed. In project scope; 11.750 square meters of natural stone, 1900 square meters of porous asphalt and a total of 13.650 square meters of pedestrian pavement area were renewed. 4.010 tons of asphalt pavement was made on the street, and the arrangement work was completed.
