'Victory March' from Afyon to Izmir Continues

The Victory and Remembrance March from Afyon to Izmir, organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of the city, continues with all its enthusiasm on its third day. The convoy, which crossed the 15-kilometer Çiğiltepe, Kırka, Akçaşar track and reached Yıldırım Kemal village, the last point of the Afyon stage, will attend the August 30 Victory Day celebrations in Dumlupınar tomorrow morning.

Departing from Afyon Kocatepe, the symbol of the nation's independence, towards Izmir on the 100th anniversary of the Great Offensive, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality convoy continues its historical journey in the lands that witnessed the epic of liberation. On the third day of the victory march, the convoy crossed the 15-kilometer Çiğiltepe, Kırka, Akçaşar track and reached Yıldırım Kemal village, the last point of the Afyon stage, and will reach Zafertepe, where Mustafa Kemal Pasha heralded the victory of the nation with the order "Armies, Your First Target is the Mediterranean, Forward" in the evening. Tomorrow morning, the convoy will participate in the August 30 Victory Day ceremonies to be held in Dumlupınar.

Black pepper seeds were distributed

The Victory March caravan, which was sent off from Kırka in the morning on August 28, distributed the ancestral wheat, karakılçık seeds, to the villagers of Kırka. Ertuğrul Tugay, Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, also attended the ceremony.

The convoy, which also visited the village of Akçaşar, where the first army headquarters was established before the Dumlupınar Pitched Battle, was greeted with applause by the members of the Akçaşarlılar Culture and Solidarity Association, children and villagers at the entrance of the village. Village buttermilk, katmer and fruit were offered to the marchers. Distributing Turkish flags and speeches to village houses, the Metropolitan Municipality experienced the joy of the holiday with the villagers of Akçaşar.

Speech and story books distributed to children

The marching convoy also participated in the official ceremonies held in the martyrdom in memory of Lieutenant Kemal from Izmir and his comrades in arms, who died on August 27, 1922, when he was only 24 years old. After the commemoration program, a catering table was set up in the village, speeches, story books and toys were given to the children.

President Tunç Soyer started the march

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerstarted the march from Afyon Derecine by lighting the torch of the historical march on 24 August. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), also participated in the 14-kilometer Çakırözü-Kocatepe stage of the march. The last stop of the 400-kilometer Victory and Remembrance March will be the liberation ceremonies of Izmir, which will be held on the morning of September 9 at Cumhuriyet Square.
