Emphasizing that İzmir is one of the locomotive cities of the Turkish economy with its agriculture, industrial activities, raw material resources, qualified workforce and the breadth of transportation opportunities, as well as being a port city, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “The goods produced in our industry have a quality in line with world standards. It has a reputation in both domestic and foreign markets. From past to present, Izmir has been one of Turkey's most important gates to the Western world. However, we believe that İzmir has a much greater potential. We do not want İzmir to remain as a door opening to the West. Let it be Turkey's showcase with everything. For this reason, we pay special attention to the development of İzmir's transportation and communication infrastructure.”

Minister Karaismailoğlu noted that in the last 19 years, they have spent approximately 13 billion TL, 190 billion 35 million TL of which is within the scope of the Build-Operate-Transfer model, for transportation and communication investments in İzmir. Emphasizing that investments in İzmir will continue intensively, Minister Karaismailoğlu continued his words as follows:

“We have reached 2003 kilometers in total by adding 430 kilometers to İzmir's divided highway length, which was 523 kilometers in 953. We have completed the Izmir-Istanbul Highway, one of Turkey's largest BOT Projects. Thus, we reduced the Istanbul-Izmir journey, which took 8-9 hours on average, to 3,5 hours, and made Izmir almost Istanbul's next door neighbor. In addition to the highway, with our investments in highways, we have reduced the transportation of our city to Bursa to 1 hour, the distance from Balıkesir to 2 hours, and the transportation to Eskişehir to the interval of 2-2,5 hours.”

We made Adnan Menderes Airport one of the most modern airports in Europe with its new domestic and international terminals. With its architecture and aesthetics, and its spacious, convenient and state-of-the-art infrastructure and superstructure, we have made İzmir a worthy airport. We started the Çandarlı Port project in order to transport the cargoes in the region by sea and to ensure that our country plays a role in the main container transportation in the Eastern Mediterranean. Our route is to become the leading country in maritime and to further strengthen İzmir's presence in this field.”
