A critical milestone has been reached in the serial production process of Turkey’s national main battle tank, the ALTAY. ASELSAN has successfully completed Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for the systems covered by the ALTAY Serial Production Project Subsystems Contract it signed with BMC. These domestically produced systems, which passed the tests successfully , were delivered to BMC to be integrated into the first three ALTAY tanksrolling off the production line .
With this delivery, the ALTAY tank is now equipped with advanced technologies that will ensure its operational superiority as a fully digital and network-enabled platform suited for future battlefields.
13 Domestic Systems from ASELSAN for the ALTAY
Under the contract, ASELSAN is providing a total of 13 domestic and national systems for the ALTAY tank. These systems enhance the tank’s operational capabilities under three main headings, collectively referred to as the “Iron Triangle.”
1. Firepower
Systems that enhance the tank’s ability to detect, track, and destroy targets:
- VOLKAN-II Fire Control System (AKS): Provides high-precision firing capability.
- SARP Remote-Controlled Weapon System: Enables the tank to use its secondary weapon in addition to its main weapon without requiring armored intervention.
- Gunner’s Second-Level Viewing Subunit
- Battlefield Recognition and Identification System (Friend-or-Foe Identification)
- Tank Crew Training System (Embedded Simulator)
2. Survivability
Systems that protect the tank against incoming threats and ensure the safety of the crew:
- AKKOR Active Protection System: Detects and physically destroys incoming anti-tank missiles and rockets.
- Tank Laser Warning System: Detects laser-guided threats and alerts the crew.
- Tank Command, Control, Communications, and Information System
- ÖRÜMCEK Close-Range Surveillance System (Situational Awareness): Enhances 360-degree situational awareness around the tank.
- Tactical Radios and Internal Communication System: Forms the backbone of communication for network-enabled warfare capabilities.
3. Mobility (Maneuverability)
Systems supporting the tank’s movement and maneuverability:
- Tank Driver Vision System: Enables the driver to operate the tank safely at night and in adverse weather conditions.
- Turret Slip Ring: Facilitates the transmission of electricity and data between the turret and the hull.
Turkey’s Defense Capabilities Are Growing Stronger
ASELSAN’s wide range of advanced technology systems makes the ALTAY tank fully compatible with the digitalization and network-centric warfare concepts required by the modern battlefield. The transition of domestically produced subsystems to mass production plays a critical role in achieving Turkey’s goal of increasing the localization rate in its defense industry and in elevating the operational superiority of the country’s flagship main battle tank above international standards.
