İYİ Party's 5th Extraordinary Congress was held today. At the congress, where Meral Akşener announced that she would not be a candidate again, 4 names competed for the chairmanship. No candidate achieved an absolute majority in the first round. An absolute majority could not be achieved in the second round, and Dervişoğlu was the winner in the 3rd round.
Since an absolute majority was not achieved in the first round, the election went to the second round. Tolga Akalın withdrew his candidacy.
In the second round, no candidate could achieve an absolute majority. While Müsavat Dervişoğlu received 570 votes and Koray Aydın received 565 votes, the election went to the 3rd round.
DERVİŞOĞLU WAS THE WINNER IN THE 3RD ROUND
Since an absolute majority was not required in the 3rd round, the candidate who received the most votes, Müsavat Dervişoğlu, became the Chairman of the İYİ Party. In the third round, Dervişoğlu received 611 votes, while Koray Aydın received 548 votes.
After Dervişoğlu was elected the new chairman, Meral Akşener shared the following on her social media account: "5. “I congratulate Mr. Müsavat Dervişoğlu, who was elected as the Chairman of İYİ Party at our Extraordinary Congress, and wish him success.” he said.
On the other hand, in the statement made by the Directorate of Communications, it was announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called Müsavat Dervişoğlu, who was elected as the Chairman of the İYİ Party's 5th Extraordinary Congress, and congratulated him, and expressed his wishes that the congress would be beneficial.
Müsavat Dervişoğlu, the new Chairman of the İYİ Party, stated that he did not win a race and said, “Because we did not compete with anyone. Everyone's eyes were on this congress. May God bless everyone. Not even the slightest bad incident occurred. This is the greatest evidence of what kind of movement the good and brave movement is. Koray Aydin is my family elder and brother. Mr. Akalın is also my brother and a member of my family. We embarked on this journey as your candidates. We are all proud to belong to you. As of today, we will hug each other and heal our wounds, and then we will continue our journey to power together. Nothing will ever be the same again. I greet you all with love and respect. How happy is the one who says I am a Turk." he said.
