The World's First 'Horizontal' Recycled Diapers Are Available for Sale in Japan!

A company in Japan has begun selling the world's first "horizontal" recycled diapers as the country's aging society shifts demand for diapers to those for older adults.

Unicharm, headquartered in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima, cooperated with local governments and offered adult and baby diapers for sale in shopping malls in Kyushu, one of Japan's four main islands, this month, according to the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.

These products are described as “horizontal” because the remanufactured products are the same products they were recycled from rather than being made into different products.

Unicharm said it uses sterilization, bleaching and deodorizing technology that includes ozone to ensure that recycled diapers are free of bad odors and bacteria.
