Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet used the following statements in her post on her social media account; “Unfortunately, the cancellation of the protocols regarding the use of Tepeköy Student Dormitory and Nebi Güdük Youth Center at the council meeting of Izmit Municipality is being deliberately distorted by some political circles.
As claimed, such a ridiculous issue as targeting our young people receiving Islamic education in the cancellation of the TÜGVA protocol is never out of the question. As a municipality, it is our primary duty to stand by all our young people and provide them with equal and fair service.
We strongly condemn these statements of some political circles and their attempts to use our youth and their education as a tool for their political conflicts.
THEY USE THE STATE'S MONEY AS IF THEIR FATHER'S PROPERTY
These decisions we took to protect the interests of the people of Izmit and to manage public resources fairly were made as a result of transparent and legal processes. We could no longer allow some groups to gain financial benefit from the dormitory building built by the municipality and to use the state's property as if it were their father's property!
THERE ARE COURT DECISIONS AND COURT OF ACCOUNT REPORTS
Our protocol cancellations, Court of Accounts reports and court decisions have already clearly demonstrated that these allocations are irregular. In this context, as Izmit Municipality, we have decided to operate the dormitories as a municipality in order to protect our students and provide them with the service they deserve.
STUDENTS WILL NOT BE REMOVED
The fees collected from the dormitory operated by TÜGVA and the management styles have caused the municipal resources to deviate from their original purpose. As a municipality, no student will be expelled from the dormitory without causing any harm to our students. On the contrary, we are trying to establish a system where our students here will receive free and quality service. We do not understand why people are disturbed by the fact that our municipality offers dormitory services to all young people on its own property! As Izmit Municipality, we will continue to invest in the future of our young people and offer them the opportunities they deserve. "The housing right of each of our students is guaranteed by Izmit Municipality and our steps in this direction will continue with determination."
