Revolutionary Solution Against the Reality of Earthquakes

Earthquake early warning systems have been on the world's agenda for a long time. Türkiye, on the other hand, has managed to develop an earthquake early warning system that is ahead of its world counterparts.

EDİS Earthquake Early Warning System, developed at Yıldız Technical University Technopark, offers a revolutionary solution to Turkey's earthquake reality.

This artificial intelligence-based system detects the earthquake on-site (on the fault line) and sends a warning to the regions that may be affected by the earthquake before the earthquake tremors reach. EDİS, an integrated autonomous system, prevents loss of life and property by sending alerts to users within seconds or even minutes, depending on the epicenter of the earthquake.

The system, which is currently being actively used by thousands of people and institutions in the Marmara Region, will be available for individual use of citizens via mobile phones in a very short time.

HOW MUCH DOES IT TAKE TO WARN EARLY?

EDIS's early warning period may vary depending on your region and the depth and magnitude of the earthquake. However, EDIS sends an alert before the earthquake's destructive shaking (S wave) reaches you. Since the geological structure and earthquake risk of each region is different, warning periods may be affected by geographical location. For example, regions closer to the earthquake center may receive the warning earlier, while for more distant regions the time may be slightly longer. However, depending on the distance to the center of the earthquake, it can take seconds or even minutes in some regions. The only thing required to use the system is an internet connection.

THE SYSTEM HAS BECOME AVAILABLE IN MARMARA

EDİS Turkey Founding Partner and CEO Ali Emre Erişen: Our scientists are focusing on the possibility of an earthquake of at least 7.5 magnitude in the Marmara Region. This is a very serious danger. Our people and institutions urgently need to establish an early warning system and receive support from authorized institutions for its implementation. We made the EDİS Early Warning System, which will prevent loss of life, available in the Marmara Region. We have a 5-year plan to be active throughout our country. Our infrastructure works continue at full speed. The Marmara Earthquake means that approximately 34 million of our people are at risk. For this reason, we are literally racing against time. The system we have developed allows you to take precautions and be prepared for an earthquake by gaining seconds or even minutes, depending on your location, before the devastating tremors of the earthquake, at a lower cost than traditional earthquake early warning systems. "In this way, we aim to minimize the damage that people may suffer," he said.
