Mersin Gaziantep High Speed Train Project Will Be Completed in 2027

Knowledge has been systematically gathered and assessed on aerodynamics from the Velaro fleets in Germany, China, Spain and Russia. New aerodynamic measures were tested in the wind tunnel and on the Velaro in China. This led to a further development of the Velaro platform and thus to the fourth stage of evolution which can be seen on the outside with the new Velaro. The Velaro Turkey is a further development which incorporates the findings from the operating fleet, integrating the current requirements of TCDD customers. In May 2013, Turkish State Railways (TCDD) placed an order with Siemens for a first Velaro-D-based train. The train took on the passenger service between Ankara and Konya on May 24, 2015. A further order for six additional 8-car high-speed trains based on the Velaro-platform followed. The delivery for six additional trains is scheduled for 2017.

According to the statement of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, work on the Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High Speed Train Line Project continues rapidly and the project is aimed to be completed in 2027.

With the completion of this project: travel time between Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye and Gaziantep will be significantly shortened. Freight transportation in the region will also become faster and more efficient. It will contribute to the economic development of the region.

Uraloğlu also announced that plans are being made to extend the project from Gaziantep to Şanlıurfa, Ovaköy and Fav Port via Iraq. With the completion of this project, the connection between southeastern Turkey and Iraq will be significantly strengthened.

Minister Uraloğlu said that an evaluation was made to run a suburban line between Adana and Adana OIZ and they thought this might be possible. With the completion of this line, transportation to the OIZ will become easier and faster for those living in Adana.

The completion of these projects will contribute to a significant development in Turkey's transportation infrastructure and contribute to the country's economic development.
