Life in the Earthquake Zone has not normalized!

Turkish Medical Association (TTB) published a report about the earthquake region. The report pointed out deficiencies in accommodation, security and public transportation.

Difficulties Encountered After the Earthquake

In TTB's article, attention was also drawn to the difficulties experienced in the region after the earthquake. The report included the following statements: "It was emphasized that life in the region has not normalized due to reasons such as incomplete removal of debris, housing problems, security deficiencies and inadequate public transportation facilities. It has been stated that this situation also negatively affects access to health services. It has been stated that population mobility also causes a decrease in the income of family physicians and that this situation negatively affects the living standards of physicians. TTB stated that this situation may prevent family physicians from terminating their contracts and therefore preventing the public from accessing health services.”

For Solution Suggestions and a Better Health System

In TTB's article, it was emphasized that external supports are limited in their effectiveness in solving the problems in the system and that the family medicine system should be reviewed first. In addition, it was requested that regulatory actions be taken urgently to prevent the problems that occurred after the earthquake from occurring again. In this context, it was stated that the implementation of certain articles of the Family Medicine Contract and Payment Regulation should continue in the places affected by the February 6 earthquake. Thus, it was aimed to improve the living conditions of family physicians and ensure sustainability of access to health services. (BSHA – Science and Health News Agency)
