Precautionary Warning from Birlik Sağlık Sen Muğla Provincial Representative Gül

Birlik Sağlık Sen Muğla Provincial Representative Abdullah Gül, affiliated with the Confederation of Independent Public Servants' Unions, whose short name is BASK, said: “The fine line between life and death is as simple as taking precautions. "The methods followed in the light of science have saved lives throughout history," he said.

Gül used the following statements in his statement:

It has been exactly one year since the biggest earthquake in our history, which took place in 6 provinces centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 11. While tens of thousands of our citizens were lost, hundreds of thousands of our citizens were injured. When we look at the reason for these painful losses, we see that there are decisions taken or measures not taken by both the bureaucracy and politicians over time.

Especially the two collapsed hospitals in Hatay and the non-operation of other hospitals have increased our loss of life, and many of our citizens have to live with prosthesis today. Although our Hatay provincial representatives had warned many times in advance, using science as a reference, the hospitals built on the fault line and the keeping of earthquake-proof hospitals in operation caused hundreds of our citizens to die in the hospital rubble, as well as to lose their lives because they could not escape the disaster at their door and receive provincial help. However, if the warnings of scientists had been listened to instead of decisions taken for the sake of profit and profit, many of our lives would be among us right now.

At the point we have reached today, we see that have we learned any lessons from this painful situation? Of course NO... Many of our hospitals, especially those in Muğla, Denizli and Izmir, which are not resistant to earthquakes and are even subject to demolition, are still operating. There is nothing understandable or explainable about these decisions. Just like the mentality that turns a deaf ear to the scientists who raise their voices everywhere to take precautions against the possibility of an earthquake in Malatya, Maraş and Hatay provinces, they continue to turn a deaf ear to the scientists who say that the same warning will be made in 17 provinces. It should not be forgotten that every one of our people has been murdered because precautions were not taken.

At the end of Gül's statement, "As Birlik Sağlık Sen, we will always continue to fight in the light of science and raise our voices on every platform. We are calling out to the Ministry of Health from here: You must make our hospitals, which are the only thing that all people will need in the event of an earthquake, earthquake resistant as soon as possible. In this sense, we invite the people of Muğla and all NGOs and political parties to take action to prevent these sufferings from happening in Muğla. On the anniversary of the great earthquake, we wish God's mercy to all our citizens, especially all our martyred healthcare workers who were martyred in the line of duty, and offer our condolences to our Turkish people. "We remember him with gratitude and respect," he said.
