Turkey's 'First Domestic and National' Surveillance Radar!

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, in his written statement, emphasized that an important progress has been made in Turkey's air traffic control services with the entry into service of the National Surveillance Radar (MGR).

Minister Uraloğlu stated that MGR, which will serve by detecting aircraft with its strategic location, will fulfill the task of successfully transferring air traffic to the air traffic management software currently used by air traffic controllers, who maintain the dense air traffic in Turkish airspace safely and securely.

Emphasizing that the system will contribute to the safe and secure management of air traffic, Uraloğlu said, “It will increase the efficiency of air traffic control services. It will reduce foreign dependency. "It will contribute to Turkey's technological development in the field of aviation." said. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the National Surveillance Radar (MGR), which was developed entirely by Turkish engineers and domestic resources in cooperation with the State Airports Authority and TÜBİTAK, was temporarily accepted in the field.

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY RADAR SYSTEM WILL WORK TOGETHER

Stating that the field acceptance phase of the Secondary Surveillance Radar system was started in 2023, Uraloğlu said, “Within the scope of these studies, the performance of the system was evaluated and a series of tests were carried out to ensure that all desired criteria and requirements were met. "With the work carried out, both the primary and secondary radar systems have been brought to the stage of working together." he said.

Minister of Transport Uraloğlu emphasized that MGR, whose radar range is 112 kilometers (60NM) in the primary surveillance radar system and 370 kilometers (200NM) in the secondary surveillance radar system, will monitor the airspace under its control 7 hours a day, 24 days a week.

AN IMPORTANT STAGE HAS BEEN MADE IN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SERVICES

Stating that the system will serve the approach traffic of Gaziantep Airport on the one hand and manage the en-route traffic within 370 kilometers on the other hand, Uraloğlu said, “With the entry into service of MGR, Turkey has made an important progress in air traffic control services.” .” said.

Stating that the entire 1 million square kilometer Turkish airspace can be monitored with national and local means with the project, which is aimed to be established in different regions within a program, Uraloğlu said, “Designed in accordance with the recommendations of the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), MGR is a part of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). ) meets all standards. "The fact that MGR is a domestic system has made a significant contribution to Turkey's domestic and national production move in the field of aviation," he said.

It will contribute to the safe and secure management of air traffic and will also increase the efficiency of air traffic control services.
