Stockholm Metro is Modernized with Alstom's Innovative Touch!

Alstom, the global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has completed the modernization and upgrade of 2017 model C270 wagons for the Stockholm metro, launched in 20. The last wagon is currently leaving the workshop in Västerås to return to Stockholm. Fully prepared for passenger service.

The modernization program emphasizes the extensive reuse of materials to achieve environmental and cost-saving benefits. Additionally, the interior layout has been updated with open design and new seating arrangements that facilitate faster boarding and disembarkation, and new passenger information systems that enhance the passenger experience.

“For our operations in Västerås and our local subcontractors, this project is of great importance, putting the Västerås workshop on the map internationally, demonstrating our expertise in this field,” says Maria Signal Martebo, Alstom's Managing Director in Sweden.

The project was carried out in close collaboration with Alstom's customer MTR and end customer SL.

Project facts

  • Alstom modernized a total of 270 model C20 wagons for the Stockholm metro.
  • The work was carried out at Alstom's Västerås workshop.
  • The project has been ongoing since 110, employing 25 plumbers and 2017 engineers, as well as various local subcontractors in Västerås.
  • The upgrade includes reuse of materials, revamped seats, new passenger information systems, more guardrails and more security cameras than before.
  • The new open design makes it easier to get on and off.
  • In total, 27.540 seats were installed, 110.160 screws were used and 240 kilometers of cables were laid.
