'GREEN TRANSFORMATION IS NOT ONLY ENVIRONMENTAL, BUT A SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATION'

Stating that the climate crisis in the world is deepening, resources are rapidly depleting and raw material problems are beginning to occur, Prof. Dr. Güray Salihoğlu stated that green transformation and sustainability have become a necessity. Salihoğlu said, “After the Paris Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal, it has become a priority for our industry to take steps towards green transformation with mechanisms such as the Border Carbon Regulation. Green transformation means not only environmental but also sustainable transformation. If we want to achieve sustainable development, we need to develop people first. We need a clean atmosphere and natural resources to develop our people. We cannot think of human existence without environmental development. If people do not exist, we cannot talk about the economy. "We cannot separate these three basic components in sustainable development," he said.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY: A KEY ROLE TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

Pointing out that the key role for the European Union in becoming climate-neutral by 2050 is reshaping the relationship between climate and consumption. Dr. Nezih Kamil Salihoğlu gave information about the circular economy concept emphasized by the EU in the Green Deal and transformation processes. Salihoğlu said, “Legal obligations are determined by taking the carbon footprint as a reference, but the main goal is to ensure the change in the philosophy of production and consumption. The circular economy action plan presented by the EU aims to develop sustainable products and ensure circularity in production processes. Everyone, from SMEs to consumers, needs to say goodbye to the linear economy and build all their processes on circularity. In which processes can I make improvements in businesses to minimize waste generation? Can I use the raw material I have acquired in a different production process or can I offer my own waste as raw material to other businesses? They need to make improvements with questions like these. "It is aimed to achieve the basic goals of the circular economy by using raw materials obtained by reducing waste generation in different production processes."
