Izmit's Sustainability Works Make a Sound in Europe

The 2021 report, which focuses on the projects and studies produced by the signatory cities of the European Circular Cities Declaration, of which Izmit Municipality has been a signatory since 2024 and whose relations are carried out by the R&D and Project Development Unit of the Strategy Development Directorate, has been published to create an environmentally friendly circular economy. Izmit Municipality also took its place among the administrations included in the report with its work.

FIRST SIGNANT IN TURKEY

Izmit Municipality, as the first signatory of the European Circular Cities Declaration in Turkey, aims to raise awareness about the long-term political, social, environmental and financial benefits of the circular economy and contributes to the development of a supportive political framework in line with this goal. It became part of the group of cities.

RECYCLING PROJECTS

In the European Circular Cities Declaration 2024 Report, the works of 18 signatory local governments from 54 different countries managed to be included in the report, and Izmit Municipality was among the governments that were able to take part in the report with its works. The page where the activities of Izmit Municipality are included in the report includes detailed information about the Children's Prize Market Project, Izmit Çınar Waste Application and recycling activities that have been implemented by the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate to date.

PRODUCTION PROJECTS WERE ALSO INCLUDED

In addition, information was shared about the local wheat production and distribution activities implemented within the scope of the Producing City Izmit Project, which was implemented by the Izmit Municipality with its own resources to strengthen organic agriculture and local production, as well as the vegetable and fruit production carried out in its own arable areas. The social aspect of the activities was also emphasized by stating that the work carried out was carried out in an integrated manner with Çınar Public Market and some of the harvested products were distributed to families in need.

A SAMPLE APPLICATION

The last section of the relevant page also included the planting and harvesting of lavender and aronia plants in Emirhan and Ambarcı Villages. It was also underlined in the report that using the harvest for personal care and cosmetics production, in cooperation with the Çınar Women's Cooperative, which was implemented with the support of the municipality, is an exemplary practice to support the inclusion of women in business life.
