No news has been heard from the Turkish engineer who disappeared in Egypt for a year

There has been no news from naval and mechanical engineer Yiğit Acar, who worked as the 4th engineer on the ship anchored in Egypt's Suez Port, since the evening of September 7 last year. The fate of the young engineer was brought to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

There has been no news from engineer Yiğit Acar, who disappeared on the ship sailing from Egypt to the Mediterranean, for 508 days. CHP Deputy Chairman and Sivas Deputy Ulaş Karasu asked Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz about the situation of young engineer Acar, who worked as the 4th engineer on the ship.

Naval and mechanical engineer Yiğit Acar, who worked for only 4 days as the 1.5th engineer on the ship anchored in Egypt's Suez Port, disappeared on the ship on the evening of September 7, 2022. Acar could not be found during the searches of the crew of the ship, which passed the Suez Canal and sailed in the open sea. A search was carried out on the route for the engineer, who was reported to have been seen on the ship at 14.30 on the day he disappeared. However, no trace of the young engineer was found during the search and rescue efforts.

THE FAMILY REACHED KARASU

As no trace could be found in the time since their children disappeared, the family reached out to CHP Deputy Chairman and Sivas Deputy Ulaş Karasu, responsible for the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and asked for a study to be carried out regarding the fate of their children. “The documents regarding the investigation carried out by the police in Portugal and the search of the ship in Portugal, which was the first stop of the ship after our son disappeared, have not reached the prosecutor's office; "We believe that these documents will have information that will affect the course of the investigation when we receive them," said the family, adding that when the ship arrived in Turkey, they were informed that the DNA was insufficient in the examination of their children's cabin to match the DNAs. He stated that they are waiting for his son to be found and for his son to return safely.

HE ASKED YILMAZ

Karasu, who brought the issue to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and asked Vice President Yılmaz about the family's demands, said, “Where is Yiğit Acar, a citizen of the Republic of Turkey? What efforts is your government carrying out to find Acar? asked. Karasu requested that it be disclosed to the public whether there is any investigation regarding Acar's disappearance and, if so, at what stage this investigation is. The questions Karasu wants Yılmaz to answer are as follows:

Have the statements of the captain and crew of the Dema M ship and Movers Denizcilik Ticaret A.Ş. officials been taken within the scope of the investigation? If not, what is the reason?

Is it true that although the images from Istanbul Airport, Cairo Airport and Egypt Suez Port were requested by the prosecutor's office, the images have still not been delivered? If true, what is the reason and legal basis?

What is the fate of the investigation carried out by the police in Portugal, the first stop of the ship after Acar disappeared, and the documents related to the search of the ship?

Is the claim that Acar's name is not on the list, while the name of all personnel boarding the ship should be registered along with their belongings? If true, who is the person or persons who are negligent in this regard?

On what date did the ship arrive in Turkey again? Are there any inspections/research done on the ship after arriving in Turkey? Is it true that the examination of Acar's cabin, which was reportedly locked after his disappearance, found that the DNA was "insufficient" to match the DNA?

Is it true that 2 of the 1 suitcases containing Yiğit Acar's belongings was sent from the Portuguese Consulate to Istanbul and from there to Şebinkarahisar Prosecutor's Office, but the other suitcase could not be found? If true, what is the fate of this suitcase? Have there been any results from Acar's mobile phone and computer, which were examined?
