Historical Buildings Will Be Introduced to Tourism in Izmir

Bülent Tercan, who wants the buildings in the city hinterland, such as Kemeraltı, Kordon and Fair, which have the potential to be a favorite of tourism, to be turned into hotels, said: 'These buildings are being wasted in our opinion. For example, the service center of an official institution may operate in the surrounding districts of the city, but you cannot carry the bay and its historical tourism values. We need more hotels and tourism facilities to host guests coming to regions with intense tourism potential. "On the other hand, shifting the administrative centers of institutions to districts in need of development will also contribute positively to the general development of Izmir," he said.

Drawing attention to the area belonging to Izmir Development Agency (IZKA) on Atatürk Street, Tercan said, 'This area was designed as a service building for the institution long ago. It is currently used as a parking lot. It serves at the Food Bazaar in İZKA. İZKA carries out its duties successfully without any disruption in its services and works. There is no need to move the administrative building to the center. "Then, it would be a better approach to bring this area to tourism," he said.

Reminding that İZKA land was within walking distance of Kemeraltı at a time when UNESCO was on the agenda, Tercan said, 'I presented this important issue as a wish and suggestion to the Izmir Chamber of Commerce High Advisory Board, of which I am a member. I hope the developments will be in the direction we want. If the opinion of the people of Izmir was asked by referendum and SWOT analysis on this land of Izka, they would say that a hotel with a large basement and a parking lot should be built. "Building an administrative building would be a mistake for Izmir," he said.
