At the meeting, Governor Gökmen Çiçek announced that very important decisions were taken within the scope of combating disasters.
SEARCH AND RESCUE UNION DIRECTORATE WITH 100 PERSONNEL CAPACITY
In this context, it was decided by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency to establish a Search and Rescue Unit Directorate with a capacity of 100 personnel within the Kayseri Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate.
AFAD LOGISTICS WAREHOUSE
In addition, it was deemed appropriate to build an AFAD Logistics Warehouse in the area planned as an indoor sports area belonging to the Finance treasury, in Şeker Mahallesi, Kocasinan district. While the allocation of the real estate was requested from the Kayseri Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the changes in the Master Development Plan and Implementation Plan made by the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality were discussed and approved by the Metropolitan Council at the meeting held in January 2024.
In addition, the Directorate Service Building campus and the Zincidere 1st Commando Brigade Command in order to increase the technical capacity and skills of the search and rescue personnel working within the AFAD Presidency and the personnel working in the field of search and rescue in partner institutions and to respond more effectively after possible earthquakes. While it was deemed appropriate to build 2 urban search and rescue training tracks, work for the track has started.
ONE OF THE IMPORTANT STEPS FOR KAYSERİ
Governor Çiçek, in his statement on the subject, said, “There have been some developments in this process. One of the most pleasing developments for AFAD for us is that it was decided to establish an AFAD Union Directorate in Kayseri, with the work of our Metropolitan Municipality, our MPs, us and the AFAD Directorate. It is very important that this union is in Kayseri. This unit consists of experienced search and rescue teams that will respond to specific disasters. At the same time, the second good news for us is that our AFAD Logistics building is being built, and it will start. It is one of the important steps for Kayseri. "A lot of work has been done as an institution in this process," he said.
Çiçek also stated that the Disaster Affairs Department established within Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality will cooperate with many more Governorships.

Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç said, "In addition to the studies carried out in this field together with Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality and the relevant district municipalities, they have also included the works that need to be done in the last period on their agenda, by creating a separate area, especially the Disaster Affairs Department, and discussing what should be done in this regard, with institutions and organizations."
