The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that the leaders of the global aviation industry will come together in Istanbul for the 79th IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the World Air Transport Summit, hosted by Pegasus Airlines.

The event, which will take place from 4 to 6 June, brings together top industry leaders from IATA's more than 300 member airlines, as well as key government officials, strategic partners, equipment suppliers and the media.

IATA General Manager Willie Walsh said, “On Monday, June 5th, Istanbul will be the aviation capital of the world. Airlines will meet to review the industry's recovery from COVID-19, plan the path to a more sustainable future, discuss the opportunities offered by technology to increase efficiency, from modern retail to advanced conveniences, and understand the common regulatory challenges they face. Aviation is important. Even as geopolitical divisions deepen, connecting the world is a vital task that requires profitable, safe, efficient and sustainable airlines. Decisions to be taken at this General Assembly will set the direction for an even more effective global connection.”

Pegasus Airlines Chairman of the Board of Directors and IATA Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mehmet T. Nane, in his assessment of the General Assembly, said, “We are very proud to host our industry partners in our city, Istanbul. We look forward to welcoming everyone here for the IATA General Assembly, especially as we move towards our fleet of 100 aircraft on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey this year. Aviation came together to help the people of Turkey rebuild after the tragic earthquake in February. And now aviation is meeting to discuss vital issues related to our path towards our goal of net zero carbon CO2050 by 2, the diversity of our industry, our operational recovery from the depths of COVID, and more.”

World Air Transport Summit is also held

After the IATA Annual General Assembly, the World Air Transport Summit will be held. In addition to the updated industry economic outlook, the key issues to be addressed at the summit are:

A 'Big Picture' look at the challenges facing the industry with changing energy markets and changing supply chains

Contribution of aviation to Turkey's post-earthquake recovery

Developments in the field of sustainability

Lessons learned from 2022 operational challenges

Qatar Airways is the sponsor of the Diversity and Inclusion Awards, which will be held for the fourth time this year. These awards are given to organizations and individuals who support and raise awareness of the industry's 25by2025 initiative to make the aviation industry more gender-balanced.
