The Vision Pro isn't reinventing the earpiece wheel, but Apple puts a significantly different focus on usage. This can work if the market cooperates.

Despite all the other interesting announcements, Apple's Vision Pro presentation was the highlight of the WWDC 2023 keynote. Not only because rumors about Apple's first MR headset simmered ahead of its developer conference, but also because the device with the M2 chip is technically impressive and far more powerful than its rivals.

Also interesting is what Apple didn't say in the presentation: Metaverse. While 90 percent of the tech world seems to have jumped on the term after Facebook's renaming and almost cult-like focus on the fictitious meta-universe, Apple doesn't seem very interested in the idea of a graphic-style virtual world. of the 90's.

Instead, Apple's focus in the presentation was the exact opposite of what Mark Zuckerberg probably imagined: rather than connecting with other users and navigating virtual worlds together, the Vision Pro seems designed more for individual entertainment and focused work alone.

Vision Pro is apparently made for individual experiences

At WWDC 2023, Apple demonstrated that the Vision Pro can be used as a private cinema, concentration and relaxation exercises, viewing photos or as a virtual office. At most, Facetime video calls seem to be provided for interaction – and they look pretty classic too: Conversation partners are shown in windows, not as 3D animations sitting at a table, for example.

It is also worth mentioning: The subject of the game was included in the presentation of Vision Pro with only half a sentence. The headset's operating system, Vision OS, includes a gaming SDK - but Apple didn't focus on it when it was presented. This is also different from the competition like Meta and specifically Valve and Sony.
