What is a disaster area?
As a result of natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, floods, avalanches and landslides, life in various regions is greatly affected. In order to minimize the effects of these natural disasters and to support those in the region, the damaged areas are declared disaster areas.
What happens if there is a disaster area?
When a place is declared a disaster area, health services are provided to the residents completely free of charge. Army units in the region are compelled to do what is asked of them. If necessary, technical committees from all provinces can be assigned to detect the damage to the structures.
The 11 provinces that were declared disaster areas after the Kahramanmaraş earthquake were as follows;

The statement made by AFAD is as follows;
“Due to the destruction and loss of life due to the earthquake disasters that occurred on 06.02.2023, 11 of our provinces and our Gürün district of Sivas were accepted as Disaster Areas Affecting General Life.
The earthquakes in question also affected some of our cities other than 11, and as a result of damage assessment studies; It has been determined that there are buildings that are slightly, moderately or heavily damaged in some settlements in Bingöl, Kayseri, Mardin, Tunceli, Niğde and Batman provinces.
For this reason, the settlements where the damaged buildings are located in the mentioned provinces are also accepted as Disaster Areas Affecting General Life.
