The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP) continues to work to prevent biosmuggling. In this context, a series of studies are being carried out as a continuation of the "Combating Biosmuggling Project", which aims to ensure that the economic, social, scientific, technological, medical, commercial and cultural potential benefits that can be obtained from the genetic resources of our country are used for the benefit of our country. Within the framework of these studies; It continues its activities such as providing training to law enforcement officers working in the gendarmerie, police and coast guard units on bio-smuggling, strengthening coordination and cooperation among relevant institutions to combat bio-smuggling, identifying deficiencies in legal and institutional arrangements, strengthening institutional capacity and increasing the level of awareness of the public.

Since 2007, administrative fines of approximately 86 million TL have been imposed on 21 people from 156 different countries in a total of 5,6 cases in our country, due to the destruction of biological diversity or the trade of endangered/endangered and rare plant species in violation of the legislation.

The cases are especially concentrated in the Eastern Black Sea, Southeast and Eastern Anatolia and Mediterranean Regions. In the biosmuggling cases encountered in the last five years, mainly orchid (salep) species, tuberous and bulbous plant species, wild wheat, butterflies, insect species, viper species, salamander species, cranesbill, tortoise, oak shoots, laurel, sandalwood, mushroom species, river species such as haircut were detected.

The General Directorate of DKMP has also established the "Bio-smuggling Information Sharing System" to facilitate the follow-up of biosmuggling cases, and since 2007, information and data on biosmuggling cases that have been legally actioned are uploaded to the system. A protocol was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Interior in order to make the said data available to the relevant units of the Ministry of Interior and to share data and information electronically. In this framework, direct and instant data flow can be provided to the Ministry of Interior. With the sharing of biosmuggling data between the Law Enforcement Forces and the Ministry, biosmuggling cases are monitored and prevented.
