ATAK-II Heavy Class Attack Helicopter Takes Off for the First Time

ATAK-II Heavy Class Attack Helicopter took off for the first time. Work within the scope of the ATAK-II Heavy Class Attack Helicopter project, which was developed with domestic and national resources, started on 17 February 2019. After the completion of the design and structural production activities, ATAK-II, which started ground tests, successfully concluded the tests, which were the first engine start requirements. In this context, ATAK-II successfully performed the first engine start, one of the most important corners of the project, on April 23, 2023.

ATAK-II, which has been performing ground engine starting and endurance tests since this date, successfully carried out its first test flight between 28 and 2023 hours by cutting its wheels completely off the ground as of April 15.00, 15.15. ATAK-II, the world's third helicopter in this class, has a weight of 10 tons and an ammunition capacity of 1200 kg.

As a result of the technological know-how and operational experience gained within the scope of the T129 ATAK and T625 GÖKBEY projects, the Heavy Class Attack Helicopter Project (ATAK II) was initiated. Another factor in taking this decision was Turkey's desire to meet its future needs.

Meetings were held under the leadership of the SSB for the helicopter, whose users were determined as the Naval Forces Command and the Land Forces Command. In this context, a contract was signed for the T2019 prototype in April 0. ATAK-II was designed with domestic and national capabilities in line with the objectives of increased payload and ammunition capacity (1.200 kg excluding launchers), modern avionics systems, reduced logistics costs and high performance.

Within the scope of the program, two TV3-117VMA-SBM1V-01T Turboshaft Engines produced by Ukrainian Motor Sich were delivered to TAI on January 27, 2023. In this context, it was planned to integrate the engines into the helicopter in March.
