The construction work of the Araklı-Bayburt Road, which will provide fast, comfortable and safe transportation on the north-south axis extending from the Black Sea coast to the interior and the Southeast, started with the groundbreaking ceremony held on Monday, April 24. Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, and Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, General Manager of Highways, attended the ceremony attended by deputies, mayors, bureaucrats and contractor company representatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Karaismailoğlu underlined that thanks to the investments in Highways, they save 1 billion liters of fuel and 7 billion hours of time, and reminded that traffic accidents have decreased by 82 percent thanks to quality and safe roads, and in return, they save the lives of 13 citizens every year.

Expressing that the Araklı-Bayburt Road is one of the most important transportation axes, Karaismailoğlu stated that they will complete the entire road with a total length of 90 kilometers and put it into service as soon as possible.

General Manager Uraloğlu, on the other hand, said that a total of 11 kilometers of the road, 34 kilometers of which are divided roads and 45 kilometers of which are single roads, has been opened to traffic. Emphasizing that they have started work on the 7-kilometer section between the 17th and 10th kilometers, Uraloğlu stated that the traffic standard will rise with 3 tunnels on the road that will serve as 2 climbing lanes.

Faster, more economical and more comfortable transportation will be provided on the north-south axis.

In the section to be built with a bituminous hot mix coating, there is a single tube tunnel with a total length of 320 meters, including the 1-meter T-280 Tunnel and the 2-meter T-600 Tunnel.

With the bridge, tunnel and viaduct works on the Arakli-Bayburt Road, it is aimed to provide faster, more economical and more comfortable transportation on the north-south axis stretching from the Black Sea coast to the inner parts and the Southeast.

With the commissioning of the section whose construction works have been started, a total of 14,4 million TL will be saved annually, 5,7 million TL from time and 20,1 million TL from fuel oil, and carbon emissions will be reduced by 727 tons.
