Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer examined the activities carried out in Malatya on-site and made evaluations about the education and training processes in the disaster area.

Minister Özer made statements to the press after his examinations in Malatya. Emphasizing that they took every precaution as the Ministry of National Education to normalize education after the earthquake, Özer said: “Before opening schools, we provided all kinds of support to continue education in tents and containers. At the same time, we tried to convey all kinds of support related to psychosocial activities to our students and citizens. Then we developed a three-stage system to start education and training for our schools in the region. In the first phase, we started education and training in Kilis, Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır on March 1 for the second term. As of March 13, we started education in Osmaniye, Gaziantep and Adana. In the four provinces most affected by the earthquake, namely Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş, Malatya and Hatay, we suspended education until 27 March. On March 27, we started education only in the designated districts, not in the center and all districts. For example, as of March 27, last week, we started education in eight districts in Malatya, seven districts in Hatay, many districts in Adıyaman, and two districts in Kahramanmaraş.”

“There is no district in Malatya where education has not started”

Stating that Malatya showed a different approach, Özer said, “As you know, we left it to our governorships to start education since that date. As of today, we have started education in 156 schools in all the remaining districts. In other words, there is no district in Malatya where education and training has not started anymore, but priority was given to our schools, which were given a sound report by our Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, and they were activated at the first level and education began quickly. Today, we visited a school in Battalgazi, where education started. Our students are really happy, because they have met their friends. Our teachers are very excited.” used his statements.

Stating that education also addresses many areas around it, Minister Özer said that for this reason, the rapid normalization of education is of great importance in terms of normalizing life. Özer said, “We have mobilized all our means for this purpose. We also provide all kinds of support for our students to come together with their teachers.” he said.

Pointing out that the Ministry of National Education meets all the needs of students, especially regarding books and stationery, Minister Özer continued as follows: “On the other hand, as I mentioned before, education is mainly carried out with bussed education in five districts of Malatya because there are fewer numbers of students. Since education has started in 156 schools, we are moving our students here so that the families of students studying in other schools do not have difficulties. Again, we provide very serious support for the preparation of 8th and 12th grade students for LGS and YKS in our region.”

Noting that approximately 129 thousand students were brought together with support and training courses at 3 points in order to support the LGS and YKS preparation process in the disaster area, Minister Özer said that both the qualifications and capacity of all these supports will continue to be increased day by day.

Minister Özer, who mentioned that the application process for LGS has started between 3-13 April as of today, said: “Since our students in other provinces will automatically take the exam in their own schools, their registration will be done automatically, but if our students in the region want, they can go to schools in their provinces or districts, or if they don't, they can go to other provinces. They will be able to take the exam at the schools they want, at the schools in the district they want. I wish success to all our students.”

Addressing the teachers who worked with great devotion in this process, Özer said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our teachers and devoted teachers who are not only related to education but also for all the support and needs of the citizens.” used the phrase. Expressing that the students whose schools are opened in the region are also happy, Özer said, “I wish them success. Hopefully, they will complete this education much stronger by increasing their psychological resilience.” said.

The central exam preference process within the scope of LGS has started for students in the disaster area.

The central exam preference process within the scope of the High School Transition System (LGS) has started for students in provinces where a state of emergency was declared due to the earthquake. The selections will last until April 13.

Within the scope of LGS, the central examination will be held on June 4, 2023 throughout the country, including the provinces in the earthquake zone. Exam applications will be made centrally by the Ministry on April 8-3 for all 13th grade students, excluding students who are not registered in the e-School system abroad and students in provinces where a state of emergency was declared due to earthquakes.

However, thanks to the special measures taken for students in Adana, Adıyaman, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Şanlıurfa, where a state of emergency was declared due to the earthquake, students registered in these provinces will be able to take the exam in other provinces if they wish.

8th grade students who are in this situation will be able to choose the province and district where they will take the exam on April 3-13. Applications will be made through the e-School system.

The Ministry will determine the schools where the students who are in the provinces where a state of emergency has been declared due to the earthquake, and who do not choose the province or district, will take the exam.
