6 Thousand Smartphone Screens Seized in Kapikule

In the operation carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams at the Kapıkule Customs Gate, 3 thousand smartphone screens worth 730 million 6 thousand liras, which were tried to be brought into Turkey under the name of aid to earthquake victims, were seized.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Commerce, as a result of the intelligence studies carried out within the scope of the fight against smuggling by the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement, a vehicle that would enter Turkey through the Kapıkule Customs Gate was followed. In the operation carried out in coordination by the teams of the General Directorate and Edirne Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate, the suspect vehicle was sent for x-ray scanning to be checked when it arrived at the Kapıkule Customs Area.

The persons who were in the vehicle before the scan declared that there were no illegal or prohibited items in the vehicle and that they were carrying aid materials for earthquake victims. The vehicle, which was subjected to x-ray scanning after the declaration of the individuals, was then subjected to physical control.

Baby food, adult diapers, wet wipes, underwear, etc. on the boxes. While it was seen that there were phrases, it was understood that some parcels did not have any inscriptions on them and were heavier than other parcels.

In the detailed search made after the boxes were opened, it was determined that there were a large amount of smartphone screens in many boxes. It was seen that the phone screens in question were not included in the declared item list. As a result of the operation, a total of 19 smartphone screens were seized in 6 boxes.

While an investigation was initiated by the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, the seized contraband was confiscated. It was determined that the seized screens were worth 3 million 730 thousand liras.
