Professional Facility Managements Should Take Necessary Measures Against Earthquakes

FCTU Facility Management General Manager Hüsamettin Yılmaz drew attention to the importance of precautionary measures in our country, which is located on the earthquake zone, and stated that this is one of the priority duties of facility managers.

Stating that it is vital to prepare for an earthquake in today's conditions, Yılmaz called on the facility managers to take the necessary measures to prepare the residents of the estates, plazas, business centers and shopping malls for the earthquake and to ensure their safety.

Finally, General Manager Hüsamettin Yılmaz pointed out that what happened in the earthquake disaster that took place in our Eastern and Southeastern regions and affected millions of our people in 11 provinces once again showed us that we need to be prepared in every way against earthquakes and other natural disasters, and said, “Facility management is more than just collecting dues and routine expenditures. requires more responsibility than performing maintenance and repairs. It is very important to take the necessary measures to survive the first 72 hours of a possible earthquake with the least damage, as well as to prepare the emergency action plans of the facility and notify them to all residents and to carry out exercises at certain intervals. It was seen in the last earthquake disaster that; The helplessness of people in fear and rush, who threw themselves on the street in night clothes in the darkness of the night, in an icy and rainy weather, and their efforts to reach their relatives, were instrumental in learning many lessons.”

FULLY EQUIPPED DISASTER CONTAINER SET FOR SITES

Hüsamettin Yılmaz noted that as FCTU Professional Facility Management company, which carries out the professional management services of 24 sites, plazas, and business centers in İzmir, they have developed a “fully equipped disaster container set for sites” project to be implemented especially on sites.

Stating that the containers are equipped to provide shelter and other basic needs during and after the earthquake, Yılmaz said: “The container will be self-sufficient within the first 72 hours at the time of the earthquake and immediately after; The content that will provide accommodation for the elderly and children, first aid, first rescue, communication and other emergency needs should be created and preserved in an area that will not be affected by earthquakes and destruction within the site. In an earthquake that may occur in night conditions; A generator and lighting set that will provide lighting, a tent to accommodate the elderly and bedridden patients and children, a set of tools that will provide immediate intervention and rescue of the wrecked people in case of debris, a first aid kit to provide first aid to the injured, enough blankets and durable food and beverage materials. Keeping the subject in the container and performing the usage exercises at certain periods will create an element of trust and a psychological power among the residents of the facility.

Hüsamettin Yılmaz, General Manager of FCTU Facility Management, also underlined that the dissemination and use of the container project, which will be developed according to the dynamics of each site and facility, is important in terms of overcoming the first confusion.
