Üsküdar University Educational Consultant, Dr. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş called for the candidates preparing for the university exams to return to their routine agenda after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.

After the hard days we went through after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that swept our country, experts draw attention to the fact that despite everything, we need to get involved in life, sometimes start over, and strengthen our psychological well-being so that we can continue to heal our wounds. Addressing especially candidates preparing for university exams, Uzm. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş said, “Look for ways to improve and strengthen your competencies and abilities in the future. Revise the subject headings, complete the missing subjects, determine your daily work program”. Reminding that working within the planned program is productive, Tözeniş noted that setting short and long-term goals for the exam would be helpful in providing motivation.

We need to rest our minds

Pointing out the importance of returning students and university candidates to their routine agendas, Uzm. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş said, “After the earthquake disaster we experienced on February 6, 2023, we all know that it is more difficult for all of us to return to the old normal. We are going through a time when we wish there was a button and we could silence the voice of my mind. We need to rest our minds so we can help ourselves and others.” said.

Psychological well-being should be strengthened

Expressing that we need to strengthen our psychological well-being so that we can get involved in life, sometimes start over, and continue to heal our wounds, even though it is not the same as before. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş explained, “Psychological well-being is defined as managing existential challenges such as maintaining meaningful goals in life, personal development and establishing quality relationships with others. It refers to positive functionality in one's life. While our lives are flowing in their own course, we can encounter many bad events that we cannot control, as well as many good events that we experience. It is always easier to deal with the good, but we need to improve some aspects of ourselves to deal with the bad.” used the phrase.

Take your time and never give up!

Noting that young people need to establish and maintain meaningful goals for this state of well-being, Uzm. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş continued as follows:

“When we say meaningful purpose, it is difficult to give a general definition for everyone. Our expectations from life, our dreams, what we want to be and the areas we enjoy are not the same. Finding these and choosing the right targets is all about getting to know yourself. Who am I, what do I do when I am happy or unhappy? The answer to these goes a long way, we learn something new about ourselves every day and every new experience we have teaches us something. My advice to young people: Take your time and never give up! The biggest mistake we make when faced with a failure or a defeat is giving up. The real great achievements come when we learn from each defeat and stand up again and again, and when we work hard to achieve what we want with a greater motivation. Success only makes us proud, but defeat and loss matures, develops and even heals… It is important not to miss life, and the taste of life comes from having social relationships that nourish and develop us, and making meaningful friendships.”

What should I do next?

exp. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş said, “In these days when we talk more about merit, look for ways to develop and strengthen your qualifications and abilities in the future. May all kinds of science always be your light. Regardless of the profession, we will stand up again with the right people who practice that profession. What should I do next? Asking ourselves this question would be a step towards being able to start again.” he said.

Listen to these suggestions!

Advising university candidates who are preparing for the exam both in the earthquake zone and in different regions of the country, on what to do after this process, Uzm. Ps. From. Ece Tözeniş listed her suggestions as follows:

“You can start by reviewing the topic titles and completing the missing topics.

You can set a daily work schedule for yourself. If you work by making a program, you can progress more efficiently.

Setting short and long-term goals for the exam will be helpful for your motivation. You can set short-term goals for your daily and weekly work. For a long time, you can review your goals regarding your university and department choices.

We will heal our wounds together by working harder and trying to regain our motivation. Remember, you are the future."
