IMM has been carrying out a very careful restoration, maintenance, repair and cleaning work in historical mosques, complexes, madrasas and fountains for 3 years. Before the month of Ramadan, IMM Heritage Team carried out maintenance and cleaning work for 21 different historical buildings in 1.315 districts; He has maintained and repaired 2020 fountains, 165 graveyards, 327 tombs and 12 Ottoman religious buildings since 18.
Welcoming the month of Ramadan with iftars, sahurs, social aids and cultural events, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality also carries out very important works on the cleaning of historical monuments and their transport to the future. With the efforts of the IMM Heritage Team, the spiritual climate of Ramadan will be entered in the clean and fragrant mosques in Istanbul this year as well.
Mahir Polat, Deputy Secretary General of IMM, stated that in addition to the routine cleaning works carried out throughout the year, they prepared the places of worship for the sultan of eleven months by thorough and detailed cleaning before the month of Ramadan.
“İBB Heritage has been carrying out a very careful maintenance, repair and cleaning work in historical mosques for 3 years. This is a sense of cleanliness in which the sensitive restoration understanding of Istanbul's special religious places is also a priority. Cleanliness comes from faith. It's so good I just left the mosque. Of course, it would be better to pray in a clean environment in a beautiful environment. We carried out maintenance and cleaning work for 21 different buildings on 42 routes in 1315 districts. We repaired 3 fountains in 165 years. 327 historical graveyards, a significant part of which were areas associated with structures such as dervish lodge, Mosque, Kulliye, Madrasa, and were derelict areas. We have completed 12 tomb restorations. We have carried out maintenance and repairs on 18 Ottoman religious historical buildings. As IMM Heritage, we have carried out the maintenance and repair of 522 religious places in total.”
SELATIN MOSQUES ENROLL TO IMM
Mahir Polat, who stated that they meticulously cleaned 112 selatin mosques built in Ottoman history with a team of 40 people in total, said, “We are cleaning the major high-level mosques in Istanbul, such as Fatih, Süleymaniye, Nusretiye, Nuruosmaniye and Beyazıt mosques. During the month of Ramadan, our citizens will worship together here. They will be here especially during tarawih prayers. They will also come to these places to visit. It is a very sensitive work for us to clean and maintain these places in accordance with their historical identity. It will also be an occasion for us to pray in awe when the great cleaning is done from the beginning and our mosques are ready.”
