Chinese Scientific Research Ship Tansuo-1 Reaches the Unknowns of the Oceans

The Chinese scientific research vessel Tansuo-1 returned to Sanya Port in Hainan, south China province on Saturday (March 11th) after completing its first international manned deep-diving scientific research mission in the waters around Oceania.

The ship carrying the manned research submarine called Fendouzhe, which means "Relentlessly Working", launched its mission in October 2022. The Deep Sea Science and Engineering Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced that the ship continued its mission for 157 days and sailed more than 22 nautical miles in Oceanian waters.

A total of 10 local and international organizations participated in the scientific journey. During the expedition, Fendouzhe successfully performed 63 dives. In four of them, it went below 10 thousand meters. The expedition's research team conducted the first international large-scale and systematic manned dive survey in the "Kermadec Trench" region in the southwest Pacific Ocean.

On the other hand, the team descended to the bottom of two submarine cliffs, one of which is the "Diamantina Trench" in the southeast Indian Ocean, where they collected macro-organisms, rocks, stones, sediment and water samples.
