BAĞKUT teams, working in a wreck in Gaziantep, reached the mother and daughter behind the painting in their work in December when the parrot came out. Büşra Özdemir and her 3-year-old daughter Nur Sima, who were under the collapsed ceiling, were rescued by the teams.

BAĞKUT (Bağcılar Search and Rescue) teams, which have been working to save the citizens who have been under the rubble in the regions where destruction has been experienced since the day of the earthquake, returned. Bağcılar Mayor Abdullah Özdemir and his colleagues welcomed BAĞKUT officials.

BAĞKUT residents talked about the region affected by two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş and what happened there. The leader of BAĞKUT, Yaşar Ermiş, who witnessed so many miracle-like events, followed a parrot in Gaziantep Nurdağı, and the moment of rescuing the mother and daughter was touched by everyone.

Ermiş described his experiences at that moment as follows:

“We were working on the wreckage of a large apartment building. We saw a parrot flying from a range. We thought it might be alive there when the bird came out. We worked at that point. We realized from the sound that there was someone living there. To give morale to those under the rubble sohbet we did. When we removed the painting that appeared before us, we encountered the mother and daughter behind it. But they were trapped in the space where a human body would fit. First, we rescued 3-year-old Nur Sima Özdemir. Then the mother helped us by throwing out the rubble. Finally, we saved the mother Büşra Özdemir (30), but the father and his other child died in the hall.”

Abdullah Oğul, another BAĞKUT member, said that after Nur Sima's escape, his first wish was jellybeans.
