Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar arrived in Hatay with the Chief of General Staff, General Yaşar Güler, right after the "disaster of the century", the epicenter of which was the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş and affecting 11 provinces. continues to follow on the spot from the first day.
After the 6,4 magnitude earthquake that took place in the Defne district of Hatay the previous day, Minister Akar made investigations in the city center.
Minister Akar, who received information and gave instructions on the latest works from the Turkish Armed Forces Humanitarian Aid Brigade Natural Disasters Search and Rescue (DAK) Battalion Commander, provided the Turkish Armed Forces with a kitchen with a capacity of 10 thousand meals in a single meal established by ASFAT AŞ, a subordinate of the Ministry of National Defense. He also inspected the bakery owned by him.
Afterwards, Minister Akar visited the tent city established in Atakaş Hatayspor Facilities by Chief of General Staff Gen. Güler and Mehmetçik. Meeting with the citizens in the tent city where there are 200 tents and listening to their demands, Minister Akar also followed the food distribution activities of Mehmetçik.
Minister Akar, who also made inspections at the Mehmetçik School, whose installation was completed in the tent city, received information about the activities from the authorities. Minister Akar, who came together with the children and played games with them, emphasized the importance of education and training. Emphasizing that education is one of the most important issues to focus on, along with other activities, after the disaster of the century, Minister Akar stated that education and training will begin as soon as possible as the wounds heal in the region.
It was stated that in Mehmetçik School, educational and entertaining activities as well as psycho-support activities will be carried out by the Ministry of National Education officials.
Minister Akar thanked the Tajikistan search and rescue officers he saw in the tent city for their work and support, and conveyed his greetings to the Tajikistan Defense Minister.
CONTAINER CITY FROM NATO
Afterwards, Minister Akar, accompanied by Gen. Güler, went to the district of Iskenderun and inspected the work of the Mehmetçik here on site.
Minister Akar, who also examined the container city that NATO will establish in Iskenderun after the earthquake, examined the works there, received information and gave instructions. Minister Akar, who also met with NATO officials, thanked for the support shown.
The next stop of Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar was TCG Bayraktar, the largest landing ship of the Naval Forces Command, which started to provide health services as a Role-2 level hospital after the earthquake.
Receiving information about the activities, Minister Akar met with the earthquake victims. Listening to their demands and meeting with the doctors, Minister Akar also met with the Marines who continue their heroic and self-sacrificing activities.
