Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has received an order from Central Europe's largest private rail passenger carrier, RegioJet, to supply 13 Traxx MS3 locomotives to be operated in the Central European region.

These new locomotives will be used for domestic and cross-border journeys on electrified networks in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Germany. They are designed for use with various electrification systems and are equipped with an ETCS Level 2 signaling system alongside all conventional signaling systems for the respective countries. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2024.

Radim Jančura, owner of RegioJet, says: “We look forward to further deliveries of the new generation Traxx MS3 locomotives. We currently operate 18 multi-system locomotives, 3 of which are the latest generation of the Traxx MS22. These modern locomotives are a reliable and proven part of our fleet of locomotives. In addition to increased efficiency and lower operating costs, the new locomotives will enable us to further expand our quality and modern rail transport services under the RegioJet brand in the Czech Republic, among other European countries. At the same time, these acquisitions clearly confirm our commitment to invest in new train technology that brings greater comfort to passengers.”

“RegioJet is a valued customer with whom we have a long and successful partnership in the locomotive industry. We are pleased to continue to contribute to making passenger and freight transport more efficient and sustainable in the Central European region with these 13 Traxx locomotives, which come with an optimized maintenance regimen with less intervention. “We believe this contract will pave the way for other contracts we are negotiating with RegioJet,” said Dan Kurucz, Managing Director of Alstom Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Traxx platform offers a flexible and modular design for many applications and configurations (AC, DC and multi-system) in Europe and neighboring regions. The powerful, modular platform approach provides several benefits for single and multi-country applications.

The third generation Traxx locomotive offers higher operational performance and reliability and comes with a higher energy efficiency compared to previous versions. In addition, maintenance intervals have been extended by 33% to increase availability and reduce maintenance efforts. More than 20 units have been sold in the last 2.400 years. They are approved in 20 countries and travel a total of more than 300 million km per year.

The new Traxx locomotive was designed at Alstom's facility in Mannheim and manufactured at the Kassel facility (Germany). The bogies are supplied by the Siegen plant (Germany) and the hull structures are manufactured in Wroclaw (Poland).
