TMMOB Chamber of Geological Engineers Board of Directors called for the repair of railways damaged in two major earthquakes.

In the statement made by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Geological Engineers of TMMOB, it was stated that Adıyaman Gölbaşı Train Station and the railway were large in the earthquakes that occurred on February 6th.

These sections of the railway between Gaziantep Islahiye Fevzipaşa Train Station and Adıyaman Gölbaşı Train Station need to be scanned quickly to detect earthquake damages and to be repaired urgently and render service for more than 13 million earthquake victims.

On February 6, 2023, 7.7 magnitude earthquakes in Pazarcık and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in Elbistan on the center, Adıyaman Gölbaşı Train Station and railway; It has been observed that it causes significant damage and deformation both due to its location on the fault zone and liquefaction and lateral spreading during the earthquake.

As a result of the observations and examinations made by our Earthquake Advisory Board members, it has been determined that a significant part of this section of the railway has become unusable due to damage and deformations and needs to be repaired urgently.

As of February 14, 2023, when the examination was made, it has been observed that no work has been started on the opening of this section of the railway for use.

The General Directorate of State Railways, which is authorized to make the railways, which have strategic importance in the main transportation of our country, ready for possible disasters and emergencies, especially earthquakes, should start working on the repair of the parts of the railway damaged by the earthquake as soon as possible. In this context, it is necessary to quickly scan these sections of the railway between Gaziantep Islahiye Fevzipaşa Train Station and Adıyaman Gölbaşı Train Station to detect earthquake damage and to repair more than 13 million earthquake victims immediately.
