Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerexamined the Buca Rainwater Wastewater Separation and Kozağaç Stream Rehabilitation Project conducted by İZSU. Evaluating the giant project that will eliminate the risk of flooding in the region, Mayor Soyer said, "Floods, floods, floods will completely disappear from Buca's life."

The President, who examined the works of the 200-kilometer rainwater line separation project in Buca, in which approximately 16 million TL was invested by the İZSU General Directorate against the effects of the climate crisis. Observing the rain water canal works in the Seyhan District, Mayor Soyer said, “We can see exactly what the work that we say is separating the rain water and waste water channels is here. We also separate the waste water channels. We have solved Buca's most chronic problem on the spot. Both our Seyhan neighborhood and our Kozağaç neighborhood will be completely free from this problem. “It will contribute to the cleanliness of the Gulf”

Stating that the project carried out by İZSU is also of vital importance for the cleaning of the Gulf, President Soyer said, “This is a very big work that ultimately serves to clean the İzmir Bay. Only the work we do here has a budget of 200 million liras. This project will take its burden by normalizing the capacity of our treatment plants. It will both prevent floods and floods and contribute to the cleanliness of the gulf,” he said.

Seyhan District headman İskender Karaca, who suffered one of the most severe injuries in the flood disaster in İzmir last year, said, “I have been residing in Seyhan District since 1976. It has been a very important investment for Buca.”

Thanks to our Bronze President, a wound that has been bleeding for 70 years has been dealt with. We will save Buca from a big problem. Of course, it will continue a little longer, but it will be completed in a short time. The result will be beautiful. As long as we are patient, the result will be good”.

Floods reduced by 70 percent

Within the scope of İZSU, Buca Wastewater, Stormwater and Kozağaç Stream Rehabilitation Project, a total of 16 kilometers of rainwater lines and 10 kilometers of sewer lines and approximately 2 kilometers of streams will be rehabilitated to ensure the transition to the split system. With the project, the storm water and sewerage system will be separated from Meles Stream to Doğuş Street, which is the upstream part, and the stormwater system created will save the entire region from floods. At the same time, since there will be no rain water in the sewer line, sewage floods will be prevented. The grids, which were previously connected to the combined system, will be connected to the rain water line with the split system project and the odor problem will be prevented. 2024 percent of the project, which is planned to be completed in 42, has been completed and 70 percent of the floods have already been prevented.
