Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a contract worth approximately €49 million to supply 370 additional Coradia Stream high-capacity trains to Renfe in Spain. These trains will be in addition to the 2021 trains ordered in March 152. The combined value of the two orders is €201 billion for 1,8 trains (including spare parts supply and 56 years of maintenance for 15 trains).

All trains will be manufactured at Alstom's production facility in Santa Perpetua, Barcelona. To realize this project, the facility is undergoing an unprecedented investment and digitization plan, which includes the creation of the largest automated workshop within the Alstom Group.

Leopoldo Maestu, Managing Director of Alstom Spain and Portugal, said: “This is a historic project for Alstom in Spain, not only because of its scale, but also because it is a project built on a global concept of sustainability that started at the tender and design phase. The trains are fully accessible, designed with all passengers in mind, sustainably developed according to eco-design criteria and packed with innovative features both in the design and production process. “We will see these trains running in our cities in a few short years, but their social, environmental and economic impact is already a reality,” says Leopoldo Maestu, Managing Director of Alstom Spain and Portugal.

As part of Alstom's proven Coradia platform, the trains will allow Renfe to carry at least 20% more passengers per hour in the country's busiest rail hubs, including Madrid and Barcelona. Each will be 100 meters long and have a total capacity of 900 passengers. They feature an innovative mixed configuration design with both single and double decker cars, specially designed to meet the evolving mobility needs of major city centres.

Designed to optimize capacity, availability and sustainability

The design of the new trains provides maximum capacity for passengers, thanks to innovative interior configuration and flexible spaces. Multiple access doors and large distribution halls facilitate passenger entry and exit, reducing station downtime. Trains offer universal accessibility, Wi-Fi connectivity, and dedicated areas for bikes and strollers. Alstom's proven technology also expands availability and track utilization through more efficient traction systems and the latest generation of train control technology.

Fully developed in line with eco-design criteria from raw material selection to traction systems, all of Renfe's new trains will be a cornerstone in sustainable operations thanks to optimum energy efficiency during operation and a recyclability rate of over 98%. at the end of its service life.
