Roman Theater Opened Its Doors to Students from the Capital

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage opened the doors of the XNUMX-year-old Ancient Roman Theatre, one of the most important works in the history of the city, to Çankaya University Faculty of Architecture faculty and students. In the tour organized with the guide, the students were informed about the restoration works carried out in the historical region.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to cooperate with universities in order to preserve the artifacts that have an important place in the history of the Capital and transfer them to future generations.

Çankaya University Faculty of Architecture lecturers and students examined the restoration works carried out in and around the 401-year-old Ancient Roman Theater, one of the most important works of the city's history, within the scope of the "Arch XNUMX-Architectural Design Studio V" course.

During the trip, hosted by the ABB Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage and accompanied by expert guides, the questions of approximately 40 students and lecturers about the restoration and rehabilitation works carried out in the region were answered.

INTENSIVE ATTENTION FROM UNIVERSITIES TO THE HISTORICAL HERITAGE OF THE CAPITAL

Stating that universities across the country show great interest in the historical sites of the capital, ABB Head of Cultural and Natural Heritage Department Bekir Ödemiş gave the following information about the trip attended by Çankaya University students:

“As Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the quality projects we initiated in Ulus Historical City Center not only ensured the transportation and recovery of these assets to the future, but also started to attract the attention of universities. The finds belonging to the past period, especially during our archaeopark work, seem to open a new page in this region and in the history of Ankara. After Gaziantep University teachers and university students, we are hosting Çankaya University students and teachers today. There is also demand from other universities. This is very pleasing… While making projects, we are not only transforming them into a municipal project, but also into a scientific study that receives the academic support of universities.”

THANKS FROM STUDENTS TO ABB

Çankaya University Faculty of Architecture faculty members and students expressed their thoughts on the trip to the Roman Theatre, thanking the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality for organizing projects for students in the capital city to get to know the history of the city closely:

Assoc. Dr. Aslı Er Akan (Dean of Çankaya University Faculty of Architecture): “Today we are together with our students to see the multi-layered example of the capital. We wanted our students to observe the historical Roman layer, the Roman Bath and the Roman Theater being brought back to life. Our students actually gain the awareness of protecting our cultural heritage.”

Ekinsu Temir: “The trip was very exciting for me. Thanks to our teachers, I learned that there is such a historical place in Ulus, the center of Ankara. We will design a cultural center and archeopark as our fourth grade project. Here, too, we will carry out a study by preserving the traces of Roman history.”

Sinem Yellow: “The excursion in and around the Roman Theater provided a lot of data for our cultural center and archeopark project. Since Ankara is a multi-layered city and contains traces of the Roman Period, we had to work in harmony with the historical structure in our project without damaging these layers. Metropolitan Municipality teams informed us. I would like to thank everyone who contributed."

Berfin Mehmetoglu: “The tour about the restoration work in and around the theater was very enjoyable and informative for us. Our teachers chose this place for the project because Ankara is a multi-layered city… Here we see traces of both the Republican Period and the Roman Period. We aim to make a project that will contribute to the city in social, cultural and economic terms by preserving the layers of this place. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality teams informed us.”

Mert Ayarsoy: “The trip to the Roman Theater and its surroundings was very beneficial for us. Metropolitan Municipality teams gave us very useful information on both restoration and cultural heritage.”
