We have a comprehensive study program that has no precedent in Turkey. We move forward with universities and professional chambers. I believe that we will not suffer such losses again and that the works carried out in İzmir will be a model for other cities," he said.

200 million lira resource

The Metropolitan Municipality, which established the Department of Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement before the earthquake in Izmir, and organized the "Izmir Earthquake Common Mind Meeting" 10 days after the earthquake, formed a Disaster Science Board, which included expert scientists, and allocated 200 million dollars from its budget for earthquake studies. lira allocated.

Building identification system is being installed

A protocol was signed with the Izmir Branch of the Chamber of Civil Engineers (IMO) to take an inventory of the existing building stock in the city in order to evaluate it in terms of earthquake risk. Most affected by the earthquake BayraklıWith the work started in , the work on 33 thousand 100 houses was completed. Faults are being investigated

A protocol was signed with İzmir Institute of Technology, METU and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University for Turkey's most comprehensive earthquake research project. Studies have been initiated to model the tsunami hazard that may affect the coastal areas with the seismicity study, which will examine the fault lines on the sea and on the land, which have the risk of affecting the city. With this study, the danger of tsunami and seismic movements that the city may face in the future will be evaluated, the active faults will be determined, and the last time they were activated will be analyzed. Faults on the area determined within a radius of 100 kilometers in İzmir will be mapped.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality allocated approximately 150 million liras to these works.

Turkey's most comprehensive building and soil laboratory was established in Izmir

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality also established Turkey's most comprehensive building and soil laboratory in Çiğli. Egeşehir Laboratory in Çiğli is important in order to carry out the tests and analyzes needed in earthquake studies at international standards. In the laboratory, which was established with an investment of 20 million liras, the experiment and analysis systems are computer-controlled, and the data obtained are evaluated in the relevant software and presented in the form of a report. The facility, which has been approved by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) as the center with the widest experimental scope nationwide, contributes to the development of new experts and test methods in cooperation with all institutions and universities.

Efforts are also underway to create safe gathering areas in İzmir to meet the urgent needs of the people in case of disasters.
