The start of laying a 500-metre double steel track on the concrete floor at Putian station in eastern China's Fujian province marks the start of laying the tracks for China's first transoceanic high-speed train.

The 277-kilometer railway will connect the provincial capital, Fuzhou, with the port city of Xiamen. Designed for trains traveling at 350 kilometers per hour, the line will reduce the journey time between the two cities to less than an hour.

Workers laying the rails simultaneously lay the right and left rails by means of a machine based on advanced technology. China Railway 11th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. Zhang Xiaofeng, project manager at his company, explained that this method almost doubled the effectiveness.

Dongnan Coastal Railway Fujian Co., Ltd. Zhang Zhipeng, project manager of his company, pointed out that given the current pace of laying tracks of approximately six kilometers per day, the entire track installation work should be finished by the end of the year. The railway construction project is expected to be completed in 2023.
