The “Climate Change Action Plan Workshop” started in Ankara with the participation of Deputy Minister Petek Aşkar, in order to propose solutions to the climate change problem, which has negative effects in the world and in Turkey, by the Ministry of National Education and to create an action plan in line with these solution proposals.

The workshop, which was held in Başkent Teacher's House with the participation of the central and provincial units of the Ministry, academicians and relevant experts from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, will continue until March 18.

Six topics were identified within the scope of the workshop. According to this; “Climate change and its effects on the environment, society and public health”, “Energy efficiency and energy saving”, “Conservation of water resources and water saving”, “Air, water and soil pollution”, “Recycling and zero waste”, Evaluations will be made for solutions to the topics determined as "disasters that may occur as a result of climate change and measures to be taken against these disasters".

In the workshop, it put forward suggestions for solutions to the climate change problem, which has negative effects in the world, and the Ministry of National Education "Climate Change Action Plan" was created in accordance with these solution proposals, the actions planned in cooperation with the units of the Ministry were carried out, joint studies with stakeholder institutions were planned and joint solution proposals were made. aimed to be developed.

Thus, raising awareness of climate change in all schools and institutions within the Ministry, determination of preventive actions and their implementation; It is aimed to contribute to the development of students as individuals who know and fulfill their responsibilities on climate change.

Petek Aşkar, Deputy Minister of National Education, who spoke at the opening of the workshop, pointed out that human-induced climate change is a more important threat than weapons of mass destruction and said: poses a threat to their survival and potential future. Therefore, one of the most important points we need to address is to take our measures to protect our children and youth and to leave them a better world.” said.

Expressing that they are ready to do whatever is necessary to strengthen our students, Aşkar said, “The 'Elective Environmental Education' course, which is taught as 7 hours a week in the 8th and 2th grades of secondary schools, has been updated. In this context, the name of the course was changed to 'Environmental Education and Climate Change'. In addition, it was decided that the 'Environmental Education' course, which was taught as an elective 7 hours a week in the 8th or 2th grades, will be taught as an elective course in the 2022th, 2023th and 6th grades as of the 7-8 academic year. In this context, environment and climate change education, as a long-term investment in the future, will find a wider place in the curriculum. Similar studies continue in secondary education. Environmental Science and Management Curriculum was prepared. The topics of this program include atmosphere and climate change, conservation of biodiversity, water and life, soil and life. Elective course preparations are also continuing.” he said.

Aşkar also gave information about the projects carried out by the Ministry to raise environmental awareness and spread the culture of recycling in schools and continued as follows: “With the combination of the 'No School Without Libraries' and 'Zero Waste' projects, 318 libraries were built through recycling in all our provinces. There is at least one library created through recycling in all our provinces. In order to increase the knowledge of teachers working in schools and institutions affiliated with our Ministry on climate change and the environment, two training programs were made available to all teachers through the Teacher Information Network. 82 thousand 455 of our teachers received 'Climate Change and Environment' training. The number of teachers who received 'Waste Management and Zero Waste' training is 82 thousand 630.

Stating that all units of the ministry are focused on the subject, Aşkar noted that the action plan to be prepared through the workshop will be a guide.
