The Metropolitan Municipality is reintroducing the area of Demirtaş Grass Ski Facilities, which hosted the Grass Ski World Championship 30 years ago, but which has been idle for the last 15 years, to the city with a privileged project.

Grass Ski Facilities, which were built by DSI on the area where Demirtaş Dam is located, when Erdem Saker, one of the former mayors of the Metropolitan Municipality, was the 1987st Regional Manager of DSI in 1, will be put into the service of Bursa residents with a different concept. The area, which hosted the Grass Ski World Championship in 1991 with the participation of Turkey, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, has been left to its fate in recent years due to both neglect and quarries opened in the surrounding area. Setting a target of 3 million square meters of new green space by the end of the term in order to make Bursa a city known for green again, the Metropolitan Municipality pressed the button to bring the area in Demirtaş to the city as a privileged recreation area. Within the scope of the prepared project, the Metropolitan Municipality, which received the allocation of an area of 35 thousand 200 square meters from the Regional Directorate of Forestry, will increase the area to 250 thousand square meters in the future with the cooperation to be made with the Regional Directorate of Forestry.

dream come true

Examining the works started in the Demirtaş recreation area on site, Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş reminded that he has a dream of 'whatever is in the west of the city should be the same in the east', and said that they are making great efforts to realize this dream. Emphasizing that they are trying to bring large-usable green areas, which also contain different functions, to the city, both on the borders of Osmangazi and Yıldırım, Mayor Aktaş noted that the area used as grass ski facilities years ago within the borders of Demirtaş has been sitting idle for about 15 years. Expressing that the area could not be used in any way due to the quarries, Mayor Aktaş said, “First of all, we carried out the process related to bringing this place to our Metropolitan Municipality. Here we took an area of 35 thousand 200 square meters. However, with the new areas we will add as per the agreement we will make with Orman, we will have increased this area to 250 thousand square meters. It will be one of the alternative areas where the people of Bursa will come with pleasure. We will add different functions to it over time. We want to finish our hard ground roads, social facilities, parking lot, campervan area, green areas, security and all our outbuildings by June 2022. Of course, there will be some studies that we will do to create different topics such as mountain sledge and zipline, especially in recent years. It will be a very nice area that the people of Bursa can use with pleasure, with its security, cleanliness and green area maintenance, 7/24 control by us.”

Chairman Aktaş added that they will start work on different alternative ways, especially in order not to damage the existing road from the quarries.
