7/24 Tracking for Ships Polluting the Sea in Antalya

The 'Electronic Ship Inspection System', established by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality to prevent pollution caused by ships, does not allow those who pollute the sea. A total of 52 million 560 thousand lira fines were imposed on the ships that the system detected as causing sea pollution.

The Metropolitan Municipality carries out day and night inspection activities for marine pollution in the 320 square kilometer area between the Aksu Beşgöz Stream in the east and the Göynük Stream in the west in the Antalya Gulf, which is its marine area of ​​responsibility. With the Electronic Ship Inspection System, which was implemented in July by the Metropolitan Municipality in Antalya in order to monitor pollution caused by marine vessels 7/24, the Mediterranean Sea is monitored with thermal and night vision cameras installed at 22 points. The teams constantly check the screens at the center and immediately dispatch personnel with speedboats to the area when pollution caused by ships is detected. Deterrent penalties are applied to ships that are found to have discharged their waste. A total of 2023 million 2024 thousand lira fines were imposed on 35 marine vessels that were found to cause sea pollution between July 52 and January 560.

INTERVENTION ON THE SHORE WITH INSTANT MONITORING

Mustafa Yıldırım, Metropolitan Municipality Marine Coastal Management Branch Manager, pointed out that they protected Antalya's sea from pollution with the technology, which is a first in Turkey, and said, 'Since the area we monitor is very large, the 'Electronic Ship Inspection System Center' was implemented instead of traditional methods. The sea area is monitored and scanned day and night with high-resolution cameras. The recorded images are instantly transferred to the Electronic Ship Inspection System center. Ships detected to have discharged bilge are immediately intervened by our teams and fines are imposed with a report, while samples are taken. "Thanks to this system, 52 million 560 thousand lira fines have been imposed so far," he said.
