The IŞIK High-Power Laser System, a major milestone in Turkey’s pursuit of laser-based defense technologies, was developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and has successfully completed critical acceptance tests. Notable for its high domestic content and modular design, the IŞIK system takes Turkey’s defense capabilities a step further by serving as an effective deterrent on both land and sea platforms.

Capable of Affecting Targets Up to 5 Kilometers Away with 20 kW of Power

The IŞIK High-Power Laser System stands out for its superior operational capabilities. With a 20 kW laser source, the system offers deterrent and destructive capabilities against moving targets. These capabilities include:

  • Blinding capability up to 5 km
  • The ability to destroy and melt moving targets at ranges of up to 5 km

These features make IŞIK an effective defense tool, particularly against UAV and drone threats.

Technical Specifications: High Energy Density and Precise Delivery

The IŞIK system also demonstrates its suitability for high-performance applications through its technical specifications. Operating in CW-QCW (Continuous Wave – Quasi Continuous Wave) mode, the system has a central wavelength of 1070±10 nm. A total average output power of 20 kW is achieved through the simultaneous operation of four modules, each with a power of 5 kW.

The system’s key technical details are as follows:

  • Power Stability: ±3%, with adjustable power in the range of –100.
  • Switching Speed: A very fast switching time of 600 µs.
  • Beam Quality (M² < 2.0): Ensures precise delivery of energy to the target with high focusability and low divergence.
  • Control Interface: An Ethernet-based control interface enables remote monitoring, parameter adjustment, and easy integration with automation systems.

The system operates with a total power requirement of 160 kW and a 380 V AC three-phase voltage. These modular and advanced features enhance the system’s operational efficiency and reliability.

Environmental Resilience and Platform Integration

IŞIK’s modular design ensures stable operation in both laboratory settings and harsh industrial and military environments. The operating temperature range is set at 10 to 40°C, while the storage temperature range is –10 to 60°C. This wide environmental range allows the system to be used reliably and with a long service life in various geographical regions.

The dimensions of key components—such asthe gimbal unit, laser modules, and water coolers—demonstrate the system’s modular structure, facilitating its integration into various land and sea platforms. The IŞIK High-Power Laser System plays a critical role in Turkey’s vision to solidify its position in future defense technologies and enhance its deterrent capability.
