Protect Your Eyes from Sunlight

Kaşkaloğlu Eye Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Dr. Bilgehan Sezgin Asena said that the eyes are the organ most affected by the harmful rays of the sun in the summer months.

Stating that the amount of ultraviolet rays reaching our world in summer months is 3 times higher than in winter, Asena pointed out that choosing sunglasses and protecting your eyes in pools and seas becomes very important during this period.

In addition to the sea during summer holidays, people of all ages; Assoc. Prof. noted that he also preferred swimming pools. Dr. Bilgehan Sezgin Asena stated that eye disorders may occur in places where hygiene rules are not followed.

WEAR PROTECTIVE SWIMMING GOGGLES

Emphasizing that protective swimming goggles should be worn when entering the pool and the sea, Asena said, “Germs multiply more, especially in crowded pools. For this reason, you should not stay in the pool for a long time. We recommend that contact lens wearers avoid going into the sea or pool with contact lenses as much as possible. Chlorine, which is used to prevent germs from growing in pools, can harm eye health after long swimming. Therefore, it is important to use swimming goggles. Another important thing is to take a shower and wash your face after getting out of the pool. We should also protect our eyes well when using sunscreen. When sunscreen gets into our eyes, the chemicals in it can cause irritation. "If the cream gets into our eyes, we must wash them with plenty of water," he said.

CHOOSE QUALITY SUNGLASSES

Assoc. Prof. noted that ultraviolet rays, whose effect increases in the summer months, have negative effects on our eyes. Dr. Bilgehan Sezgin Asena continued his words as follows: “The damage that the sun can cause to the eyelid over many years can cause serious damage, including cancer. While many diseases can occur in the eye exposed to sunlight, sun rays can also cause consequences such as moles, spots and tumor formation on the eyelid. Especially in summer, children should not stay under the sun's rays for too long. Children should definitely go out in the sun with a hat and quality sunglasses. "It is necessary to use quality sunglasses to protect against harmful sun rays."
